The scientific name Ornithorhynchus literally means ‘bird’s nose’ in Greek, and anatinus means ‘duck’. The name usually means ‘flat foot’ and was originally given as the name of the genus Linnaean, but it was later known to have been given to the Ambrosia Beetle of the dredger.
