Elephants are the largest inland animals in the world. There are 3 species of elephants in the world.

  1. Asian Elephants (including Dwarves of Malaysia)
The Asian elephant differs from the African Elephant in its small ears, with a flat forehead, and two bumps on its head are the highest peaks of elephants, compared with the African Elephant with only one bump on the head. In addition, the Asian Elephant tip has only 1 lip, while the African Elephant has 2 seeds at the tip of the trunk. Both sexes of African Elephants have ivory temples, only Asian elephants with clear ivory. There are several Asian elephant subspecies, among which are Sri lanka elephants, Indian elephants, Sumatran elephants and Malaysian elephants.

2. Savannah African Elephant

The Savana African elephant or its scientific name Loxodonta africana is among the two species of the African Elephant. Formerly African forest elephants and African saffrones are classified as species but according to the latest study of forest elephants with Savannah Elephants are two different species separated from 5 to 3 million years ago. Savannah Elephants are the world’s largest surviving elephant species with a maximum height of 4 meters (14 feet) and weighing up to 11 tons or 11,000 kg. They are found almost throughout the African continent, from the desert in Mali to South Africa. African saffrones are classified as “vulnerable” by the IUCN. However, the sub-species of the Savana African Elephant, the North African Elephant (Loxodonta africana pharaoensis) has been extinct at least 2 years ago.

3. African Forest Elephants (now considered a distinct species)

African Forest Elephants or its scientific name Loxodonta cyclotis is a species of Elephant, most found in the forests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Cameroon, the Republic of Congo and Equatorial Guinea. African Forest Elephants are the smallest species of Elephant in the world. Formerly they (including the Savannah African Elephant) are classified as a species but according to the latest study, the relationship between savannah savanna and forest elephants is far from the fact that the African Elephant is divided into two different species.
