About Eiffel Tower Colouring Page

The Eiffel Tower (French: Tour Eiffel) is an iron tower built at the Champ de Mars on the banks of the Seine River in Paris. The tower has become a global icon of France and one of the world’s most famous structures.

This structure was built between 1887 and 1889 as the entrance of the Exposition Universelle, the World Exhibition celebrating a century of French Revolution. Eiffel is actually planning to build a tower in Baecelona, for the Universal 1888 Exhibition, but the parties in charge at Barcelona City Hall think it is weird and expensive, and does not fit the city.

Following the rejection of the Barcelona Plan, Eiffel sent his draft to the party responsible for the Universal Exhibition in Paris, where he built his tower a year later, in 1889. The tower was inaugurated on March 31, 1889, and opened on May 6. Three hundred workers combine 18,083 pieces of iron (a pure form of structural iron), using two and a half million nails, in structural form by Maurice Koechelin.

Accident risks are enormous, for the unusual modern skyscrapers open without central levels except for two platforms. But because Eiffel takes cautious stance, including the use of movable pulleys, auxiliary rails and screens, and in this case only one dies.
